Undoubtedly the most radical piano voice to emerge from the contemporary jazz and contemporary classical scenes in the twentieth century, Cecil Taylor’s appearance at the 1965 Newport Jazz Festival was a triumph. Featuring his long-time collaborators Steve Lacy on soprano sax and Denis Charles on drums the ensemble is completed by hard-bop stalwart Donald Byrd and bassist Wendell Marshall.
