An important commemorative CD.
2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Gene Krupa’s death at the age of just 64, on 15th October 1973. From 1935 until 1938 Gene Krupa literally drove the Benny Goodman Orchestra and small groups in a way which has never been equalled. This CD is a must for both Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa fans.
The producer of this album, John Petters, renowned drummer and band leader, says Krupa was the sound of the Benny Goodman bands….This seems an appropriate time to re-evaluate the music on this CD, which I regard as some of the most exciting sessions in jazz history.
John Petters has compiled this excellent tribute to Krupa which also features excellent liner notes, not only about the music itself but also gives valuable insights into Krupa’s drumming.
