In the years between the devastation of Darwin by Japanese bombing raids in 1942 and the devastation of Cyclone Tracy in 1974, the Northern Territory saw much reconstruction and change. In the 1950's though, the Top End still had a rugged, outback, pioneer feel to it. For men like my dad, joining the NT Police in the 50's was a call to "Serve and Protect", it was not the Police Force to join if you were looking for money, prestige or fame. Dad believed in Respect, Honesty and Integrity at all times; and he was always professional in his dealings with the public and his colleagues. Dad was a good person, with a genuine appreciation for the Original Territorians, the people and their culture.
"They don't make bosses like your dad anymore" John Ascoli
"Be assured, in a job where the highest ideals were generally pursued, NOBODY was held in higher regard by his colleagues than your dad" Tim Egan.
"One of the finest men I have ever known" Mel Lomax
Dad was a devoted Policeman, but to us he was our adored father and a loving husband to our mum, who supported him throughout his career with strength and grace.
