KeyStep is our award-winning and much-loved controller keyboard, one that you don’t just play - you discover new musical ideas with. KeyStep isn’t just a controller, it’s also a unique, highly interactive 64-step 8-note polyphonic sequencer.
KeyStep is perfect for controlling hardware MIDI synthesizers, as well as analogue CV equipment, and virtual instruments via USB. But synchronise KeyStep to a DAW or drum machine, and you also have a live, interactive 64-step sequencer allowing you to explore a never-ending stream of musical ideas, without stopping.

Connect and Sync to Everything
KeyStep works with studio gear - old and new. Featuring full sized MIDI DIN in and outs, it’s the perfect controller for keyboardless hardware synthesizers and sound modules, or for adding a sequencer to keyboards! KeyStep also controls analogue and modular synthesizers monophonically via CV and Gate, supporting Hz/Volt as well as 1V/Oct standards, with selectable 5V or 12V gate output. Finally, with USB connectivity you can both power KeyStep, and bring all its sequencing power to your arsenal of virtual instruments.
You can also clock KeyStep’s sequencer to and from analogue equipment with its clock sync in and out, as well as clocking via MIDI, or USB!
Interactive Polyphonic Step Sequencer
KeyStep is the perfect studio keyboard, because it isn’t just a keyboard. Its interactive polyphonic step sequencer helps you shape your musical ideas. Using the on-board controls, you can create a sequence in a flash, then improvise, overwrite and evolve your musical riff until you end up with something completely new and inspiring.
You can also store up to eight sequences for convenient playback live. For live and improvisational music making, KeyStep is an essential companion.

KeyStep gives you access to 32 custom-designed slim-keys, also found on our much-loved and award-winning MiniLab MKII keyboard. Inspiring Sequencer and Arpeggiator
Not just a keyboard: KeyStep also helps you improvise and explore musical ideas with its on-board 8-note 64-step polyphonic step sequencer. KeyStep also contains a fully featured arpeggiator with 8 modes to creatively arpeggiate the notes you play, in sync with your DAW, external MIDI and analogue CV/Gate equipment.
Chord Mode, Touch Strips and CV Modulation
KeyStep features two capacitive touch strips, one providing classic pitch modulation, and the other providing expressive modulation. The modulation strip also provides an additional control voltage via the dedicated ‘Mod’ CV output on the rear - which can also turn key velocity and aftertouch into voltages, too. The included Chord Mode lets you create and play classic one-finger chords, and can be combined with the sequencer for complex, inspiring results.
Total Connectivity
Full size MIDI in and out, combined with pitch, gate and assignable modulation CV outputs, as well as bi-directional USB connectivity (also providing power, for total convenience) means KeyStep will synchronise to and enhance nearly any equipment in your studio, be it sound module, synth, drum machine or software. Finally, a sustain pedal input with auto-sensing polarity means KeyStep can control piano modules and virtual instruments easily.
