Searles Dead Grub for Lawns - controls lawn grub in lawns

Controls Lawn Armyworms, Sod Webworm, Argentine Stem Weevil Adults, African Black Beetle Adults and Billbug Adults

Searles Dead Grub Pro for Lawns is a cost-effective broad-spectrum insect control that is used to control lawn armyworm, African black beetle and a variety of other grubs & beetles in lawn situations. Lawn grubs, grass caterpillars and the larvae of lawn beetles can cause devastating problems in the lawn by eating both the grass and grass roots. The damage can very quickly be noticed by patches of grass or lawn suddenly dying. The dead grass is easily lifted off the soil in clumps as the roots have been severed.

‍Lawn armyworm attacks leaves, stems and seed heads. Their name relates to the fact that they quite often occur in large proportions and quickly devour the grass before moving on to new grass areas.

‍Most lawn grub activity occurs in late spring through summer to autumn. Adult lawn beetles become active in spring, which is when they start mating and laying eggs.

HOW TO USE

Broadcast Searles Dead Grub Pro for lawns to ensure uniform coverage over the area to be treated. To provide optimum control, water immediately after application with up to 4mm of water. Inspect treated areas for continuing activity and reapply as required. Where a rate range is indicated, use the lower rates on lower insect pressure and higher rates on higher insect pressure.

Control lawn grub in lawns

The first type of lawn grub is the white curl grub. These white, ‘C’-shaped grubs are the larvae of the cockchafer beetle or African black beetle. (Commonly, these grubs are wrongly identified as ‘witchetty grubs’ when observed by home gardeners.) White curl grubs live beneath the soil surface and feed on the healthy roots of grass. Like armyworm, these pests have been known to destroy entire lawn areas completely within a matter of weeks.

Control African black beetle in lawns

African black beetle (Heteronychus arator), also called cockchafer beetle, is in its adult life cycle stage. African black beetle typically become active during spring time, feeding on leaves of the lawn and burrow just under the surface to lay their eggs.

‍In summer the larvae of African Black Beetle, white curl grub, hatch and live under the soil, feeding roots and organic matter. It is at this stage and into early Autumn that lawn owners start seeing large dead patches in their lawn. Like armyworm, these pests have been known to destroy entire lawn areas completely within a matter of weeks.

‍African Lawn Beetle enjoy warm summer evening and can be seen flying around and landing en mass on lawns and patios.

Control armyworm in lawns

The second type of lawn grub is the armyworm. These army-coloured, khaki-green caterpillars are the larvae of moths of the Noctuidae family. They are a nuisance throughout Queensland and New South Wales and sometimes occur in plague proportions. Armyworm consume the leaves, stems and seed heads of grass. They can decimate entire lawn areas, leaving behind practically nothing but bare earth.

If you notice patches of lawn suddenly dying, this could be evidence of armyworm activity. You may also notice small, grey moths flying around your lawn. (These moths are armyworms in their adult stage, looking for a place to lay their eggs.)
