German jazz musician Friedhelm Schonfeld enjoyed a long and successful career both as a jazz composer and an instrumentalist, excelling in clarinet, saxophone, flute, and piano. This new release features Shonfeld alongside musicians Rolf von Nordenskjold, Gerhard Kubach, and Ernst Bier, performing songs which were composed by Shonfeld, with the exception of Niemandsland which was written by Nordenskjold. Schonfelds style is marked by compositional and thematical structure while still allowing free-tonal playing style. His singable, expressive melodic lines are of utmost importance to him.
