Nostalgic Interior Set Functions
Passage
Knobs turn and operate a latch but don’t lock. Typically used on interior doors or doors with a separate deadbolt. Ideal for closets, hallways or rooms where no locking mechanism is needed. Standard door thickness range: 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick.
Privacy
Latch with locking mechanism. A privacy pin next to the knob or lever provides locking through the plate or rosette. Ideal for bathrooms, bedrooms or rooms where a locking mechanism is needed. Standard door thickness range: 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick.
Double Dummy
Two door sets with no lock or latch. The knobs or levers on this door set don’t turn or operate a latch. Ideal for closet doors, pantry doors or side-by-side French doors (used with roller catch, flush bolts or surface bolts).
Note: Surface mounted or thru-bolted.
Single Dummy
Door set for one side of door with no lock or latch. The knobs or levers on this door set don’t turn or operate a latch. Ideal for closet doors, pantry doors or side-by-side French doors (used with roller catch, flush bolts or surface bolts).
Note: Surface mounted.
Interior Mortise
A mortise lock is a lock that requires a pocket – the mortise – to be cut into the door. The lock is installed into the pocket in the edge of the door. If your door is not already prepared for a mortise lock, you (or a skilled professional) will have to use a mortise saw to cut into the door so the lock fits properly.
Our mortise locks fit 2-1/4 inches Backset and include a skeleton key locking mechanism.
How to Measure for Backset?
When installing a tubular latch with passage or privacy function, it's very important that you know what your backset measurement is - either 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches. (see graphic).
The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to center of the 2-1/8 inches (54 millimeter) diameter bore hole.
In the U.S., there are two common backsets for residential door locks, 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches.
Dummy sets have no latch and are surface mounted, therefore a backset measurement is not needed.
Nostalgic Warehouse Interior Mortise locks are only offered in 2-1/4 inches backset. Our mortise locks are recommended for interior use only.
