Founded in 1921 as a 'Workshop for the processing of brass and nickel silver sheet metal, with foundry', Alessi has always stood out for the high quality of its products. In almost a century of history, the company has gradually evolved to become one of the leading 'Factories of Italian design', capable of applying its expertise and excellence in design management to many different product types. Open to change and international development, Alessi at the same time has a strong bond with the traditions and cultural background of its area and continues to be synonymous with handcrafted objects produced with the help of machines.

Our Mission

Alessi’s mission is to translate its quest for the most advanced cultural, aesthetic, design and functional quality into industrial production. Designer products are the result of the constant reconciliation of art and industry, of the 'Immensity of Creative Potential' and the needs of the market. The company is committed to work constantly onto a boundary line, in balance between the most advanced expressions of the international creativity and the desires of the general public. Alessi has been described as a 'Dream Factory', which uses its products to make people’s dreams come true, providing them with the Art and Poetry that they seek.

Michele De Lucchi

Born in Ferrara in 1951, Michele De Lucchi graduated with a degree in architecture in Florence. Among the favourite students of Ettore Sottsass, during the period of radical architecture, he became a leading figure on the Alchymia and Memphis movements.

He was responsible for design at Olivetti from 1992 to 2002 and developed experimental projects for Compaq Computers, Philips, Siemens and Vitra, indicating a strong interest in design for work environments.

His professional activity is today divided between architecture (both private and public), design, technology and craftsmanship. It is reflection on craftsmanship and manual production which has in fact guided most of his research in the last 20 years.

To obtain the finest coffee

Arising out of the partnership between Michele de Lucchi and two historic Italian companies, Alessi and illy, the 'Pulcina' moka coffee maker contains a small but revolutionary innovation. Thanks to the special design of its boiler, it stops filtering the coffee at the right moment and thus eliminates the 'eruption phase' - the final filtering stage that can generate a burnt aftertaste – thus enhancing its full-bodied and rounded aroma. The 'V' shaped spout, reminiscent of a baby chick’s beak, perfectly cuts the drops of coffee.
