Matcha vs. Coffee
Coffee and Matcha are often compared to one another due to their popularity and stimulating effects. However, there are significant differences between the two, so here is a short list to highlight how where matcha differentiates itself.
- The L-theanine in matcha differentiates it from coffee, providing a sustained energy rather than quick spike.
- Matcha is generally less acidic than coffee and gentler on the stomach.
- While both are excellent ingredients in cooking, matcha is known for its versatility and acting as a staple to various diets.
Why Matcha?
Health Benefits
In addition to matcha being a tasty and traditional beverage, it also provides various health benefits due to its high concentration of nutrients and antioxidants. These unique combination of nutrients makes it an excellent addition to a healthy diet.
- Rich in antioxidants - specifically catechins. These catechins are excellent for neutralizing harmful free radicals in your body. They are also great for boosting metabolism and burning calories.
- Matcha contains the amino acid L-theanine, which is great for relaxation without drowsiness. L-theanine also synergizes with caffeine to improve focus and provide a calmed alertness.
- Detoxifies the body. The chlorophyll in matcha detoxifies the body by removing heavy metals and chemical toxins.
- Boosts immune system. The antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals in matcha can strengthen the immune system, helping your body fight against infections and illnesses.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is your matcha not graded? Matcha sold outside of Japan is divided into an informal grading system. This grading system is a ploy that was developed for marketing purposes in the West and is instilled without moderation. Companies are able to assign a "grade" to their matcha without having any proper testing or checking on the accuracy of such quality levels. As a Japanese company, we do not want to assign obscure grades to our products as this is not a concept here.
2. How do we know the quality of your matcha then? We are providing the best matcha we can to our customers straight from its country of origin. Our matcha is high value and versatile, making it great to drink by itself or as an ingredient for a tasty treat. The matcha we provide is that of the level in which can be served at traditional tea ceremonies in Japan and abroad. We can confidently state that our matcha is authentic, high quality, and filled with tradition.
3. How should we store our matcha? In general, humidity is matcha's worst enemy. however, no matter what climate you live in, we recommend that you store your matcha away from light and sealed firmly in a cool environment. Placing it in the refrigerator would maximize freshness.
4. What is your policy on "best by" dates? While it heavily depends, there will always be at least 3 months before the best by date. Upon opening, we do recommend that you consume all the contents within 1-2 months for the best quality.
5. The serving sizes are too small, what should I do? Japanese palettes often prefer the 1 gram serving size per matcha, so this is what we used as our guideline. However, the beauty of matcha is that this can be altered to the level of your choosing. If you prefer a stronger taste, you can put 2-grams of the powder in your cup to experiment and see what is to your liking.
