The life and work of Jacques Brel will forever be celebrated by fans of the chanson. And the evidence is present here in a package that comprises tracks from his first six studio albums, released in the mid 50s through to the early 60s and containing some of his signature songs. None less than 'Quand On N'a Que L'amour', his first great chanson which brought him to the attention of French audiences not long after he emigrated to Paris. France, the singer's middle daughter, now runs the Brel Foundation in Brussels. She says interest in him continues to grow, while a BBC radio programme marking the 30th anniversary of his death was narrated by an unexpected fan, Labour Party spin doctor Alastair Campbell. The late comedian and producer Mel Smith was another celebrity Brel fan despite not speaking French. 'You don't need to understand every word.
