When we started the design direction for the GEL-KAYANO Lite 2 running shoe, our first question was, “How can we make it more sustainable?” As its namesake suggests, this shoe is made to produce lighter and softer cushioning properties for runners seeking the stability properties of our GEL-KAYANO series. Reconstructing the engineered mesh upper with a higher percentage of recycled materials than the previous version, this shoe continues to use fewer overlays. At the same time, its structure targets key support zones to increase stability. Our design inspiration for becoming more sustainable continues onto the midsole, which consists of a FLYTEFOAM cushioning compound that’s made from organically derived materials. This lightweight foam helps create a softer lay down at foot strike, while the gender-specific 3D SPACE CONSTRUCTION technology is tuned for improving compression and addressing gait differences. The sole offers full-ground contact and keeps overpronation at bay while forming a solid foundation. Full-ground contact also leads to a smooth heel to toe transition.
