Islander' presents exciting examples of the unique music and languages of Torres Strait by one of it's most talented and dedicated contemporary singer/songwriters and cultural custodians. Cygnet Repu is a well regarded transmitter and innovator of traditional knowledge presented in a contemporary style. He is fluent in the Mabuyag (Mabuyaagi) dialect of the Kala Lagaw Ya language as well as Torres Strait Creole and Australian English. His music combines the two main styles of Torres Strait Islander music: The secular and the sacred.
