An American Songbird in Paris
2007 release of 26 digitally remastered tracks by the exceptional song stylist who sang with a clear, firm voice and an ability to sing in several languages, which made her an international celebrity and a million selling recording star. Although she was born in Boston and had enrolled at the Julliard School of Music in New York, it was in Paris where her career took off. In 1946, she came to the attention of French singer and band leader Bernard Hilda, who offered her a contract to sing at his nightclub in Paris. She became a popular attraction in the French capital and during the next few years her reputation was established throughout Europe. When she returned to New York, she headlined at the Mocambo Club, billed as "The Girl from Paris". Morgan became the first female vocalist to sign with the newly founded Kapp Records. Later in life, she married film producer Jerry Weintraub.
