Nanajima is a plant originated in Southeast Asia, which is mainly used as a raw ingredient for tatami mats.
It has 350 years of history, and is originally used for Ryukyu tatami mats.
A big feature is that the cross section is a triangle, and the length is over 59.1 inches (150 cm) and the thickness is uniform and not curved, making it used as a material for tatami mats.
It is very durable and has a smelling blue and darker than weeds.
Because it is difficult to mechanize and requires a lot of effort to produce, it is now only produced by only 10 farmers in Oita Prefecture and Katsuki City, Oita Prefecture and Kagotsuki City, where the tradition and technology has become a challenge, but recently attracted attention as the increase of nature-oriented consumers and domestic Ryukatsurvivor.
